Samsung Display and Government Request Vietnam to Allow Entry of 700 Business Trip Personnel
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Display and the government are reportedly requesting the Vietnamese government to lift restrictions on the entry of business trip personnel.
According to industry sources on the 9th, Samsung Display is making every effort to deploy about 700 people, including engineers and partner company employees, to the display module assembly production line in Bac Ninh City, Vietnam, for equipment remodeling.
Earlier, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam temporarily suspended visa-free entry for Koreans starting from the 29th of last month and has effectively halted the issuance of new visas. Additionally, a 14-day quarantine is being enforced for entrants from Korea.
Samsung Display believes that if engineers and other personnel face issues obtaining visas or are quarantined for 14 days, it could disrupt not only the equipment remodeling and future operations but also Samsung Electronics' smartphone production. The Samsung Display Bac Ninh plant in Vietnam also supplies displays for Samsung Electronics' smartphones intended for overseas markets.
An official stated, "Although not all 700 people will enter simultaneously, personnel must be dispatched according to the equipment remodeling plan," adding, "Since the Korean Embassy in Vietnam has requested the Vietnamese government to lift the entry restrictions, we will wait for the outcome."
