Im Gyeong CJ Vice Chairman Selected as an 'Influential Female Filmmaker'
Jo Yeo-jeong, Jang Hye-jin, Lee Jung-eun and Other 'Gisaengchung' Actresses Also Join
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] Lee Mi-kyung, Vice Chairman of CJ who participated as the executive producer of the film Parasite, has been selected as an influential woman in the film industry by a U.S. media outlet.
The American entertainment media Variety announced a list of influential women in the film industry on March 8, in celebration of International Women's Day. Vice Chairman Lee was named alongside actresses Jo Yeo-jeong, Jang Hye-jin, Lee Jung-eun, Park So-dam, and Jung Ji-so, who appeared in Parasite.
Variety explained, "When she and her younger brother (Lee Jae-hyun) established CJ Media 25 years ago, Korean audiences had turned their backs on films, and filmmakers struggled to secure funding. However, CJ has now become the largest film conglomerate in Korea, and Parasite became the first foreign-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture."
Regarding the actresses, Variety noted, "Although they did not win Oscars, they received the Ensemble Award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and gained lessons and confidence through Parasite's Academy Award for Best Picture."

The list also included actresses Ad?le Haenel, Ana de Armas, and Salma Hayek. Kim Min-young, Head of Korean Content at Netflix, was also named among 'Women of Netflix.'
