KOICA Donates Masks and Hand Sanitizers to Vulnerable Groups in Daegu... Employees' Donations Included
4000 Masks and 400 Hand Sanitizers Delivered... Employees Donate 20 Million Won in Contributions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) announced on the 9th that it delivered 4,000 masks and 400 hand sanitizers to 10 vulnerable facilities in Daegu, including residents of jjokbangchon (small room villages), homeless people, migrant workers, elderly living alone, and out-of-home youth, who are struggling due to the spread of COVID-19, and donated about 20 million KRW collected from KOICA employees.
The masks and hand sanitizers donated this time were stockpiled by KOICA to be distributed to Korean nationals participating in overseas KOICA projects, overseas volunteer groups, and global trainees in preparation for the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, it was decided to deliver them to the most vulnerable groups in Daegu who are suffering from the spread of COVID-19.
The emergency COVID-19 support fund of about 20.9 million KRW, delivered together, was voluntarily raised by KOICA and all employees of KOICA’s subsidiary, CoWorks. The fund will be used to support emergency relief supplies for vulnerable groups in the Daegu area.
The places KOICA donated to on this day include △ ‘Daegu Jjokbang Counseling Center,’ which provides shelter and counseling and supports self-reliance for residents of jjokbangchon and homeless people △ village enterprise ‘Daol Construction Cooperative,’ which teaches woodworking skills to daily laborers in jjokbangchon to create a foundation for self-sufficiency △ ‘Seongseo Industrial Complex Migrant Worker Center,’ which protects the human rights of migrant workers working in Daegu Seongseo Industrial Complex and helps smooth employment activities △ ‘Daegu YWCA Home Care Center for the Elderly,’ which provides home care and customized care services to elderly people who have difficulty performing daily activities alone due to aging △ and six youth shelters in Daegu that provide counseling and education to protect out-of-home youth, totaling 10 places.
