UK's Leading Low-Cost Airline Flybe Bankrupt... "Management Crisis Hit Hard by COVID-19"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Flybe, a representative low-cost carrier (LCC) in the UK, declared bankruptcy on the 5th (local time). Flybe, which had barely survived with UK government bailouts, could not withstand the shocks of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and other factors.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on the same day, "Flybe has entered administration," and "all Flybe flights have been canceled." Flybe operated a total of 119 flight routes.
Flybe was already experiencing financial difficulties, but the sharp decline in air travel demand due to COVID-19 made it impossible to sustain operations.
The difficulties of global airlines have also intensified. Israeli national carrier El Al decided on mass layoffs due to decreased air travel demand.
