Jeonbuk Province Enhances Fisheries Technology Research Functions to Improve Marine Environment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 5th that it will improve the marine environment by strengthening fisheries technology research functions to increase fishermen's income, and by constructing replacement fishery patrol vessels and fishery cleaning vessels to protect marine resources.
First, the province will significantly enhance fisheries technology research functions by constructing a new Fisheries Disease Center and establishing an eco-friendly inland water crustacean research facility.
The province has established a foundation for producing and supplying safe and high value-added seafood by constructing the Fisheries Disease Center.
In addition, advanced equipment such as a fully automated nutrient and mineral analyzer and real-time gene amplifier will be introduced within the center to inspect heavy metals and antibiotics in seafood produced in the province, aiming to build a safe seafood supply system.
Efforts are also being accelerated to build a high value-added crustacean research facility.
The 'Eco-friendly Inland Water Crustacean Research Facility,' the first of its kind nationwide, will be constructed at the Freshwater Fish Testing Station located in Gosan-myeon, Wanju-gun. This research infrastructure will support experimental research on high value-added crustaceans such as Toha and large freshwater prawns, and the production of superior seeds, promoting income improvement for fishermen through aquaculture species conversion in inland water fisheries.
The fisheries technology research functions have been further strengthened by renovating and repairing the aging facilities of the Fisheries Technology Research Institute and the Freshwater Fish Testing Station.
Replacement construction of aging government vessels will actively contribute to protecting marine resources and collecting marine waste.
To effectively guide fisheries, including protecting marine resources and cracking down on illegal fishing, aging fishery patrol vessels have been replaced and newly constructed.
Fishery cleaning vessels have also been replaced and newly constructed to promptly handle marine waste, create a pleasant coastal environment, and restore marine resources.
