Seodaemun-gu's Shingihan Playground Cultivated Through 'Hyupchi'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) operates the ‘Amazing Playground Ttegul Ttegul’ (around 41-29, San 41, Hongje 1-dong), which opened last November, through public-private cooperation with the Seodaemun-gu Cooperation Committee and the Children's Inspection Team.

At the ‘2019 Seodaemun-gu Cooperation Achievement Sharing Party’ held last December, local residents voluntarily applied to participate as ‘Park Caretakers,’ and based on this, a related resident council will be formed this month to strengthen the management of the Amazing Playground.

Additionally, to make this playground a happiness recharge spot for children, public-private cooperation will develop and operate programs such as ‘Nature Experience’ and ‘Moving Playground.’

The district installed CCTV and emergency bells in the playground, which are monitored in real-time by the ‘Seodaemun-gu U-Integrated Control Center,’ and requested the Seodaemun Police Station, local police boxes, and the neighborhood watch to strengthen patrols.

Furthermore, to ensure safer use of the playground, the access pedestrian environment has been improved, and a separate parking space has been prepared next to the playground for the convenient boarding and alighting of children.

The ‘Amazing Playground Ttegul Ttegul’ maximizes the use of natural terrain and objects, and the facilities introduced in the play area, such as wooden playground equipment, natural wood walking paths, and loess paving, are made of natural materials.

Around the play facilities, sand from Jumunjin on the East Coast, suitable for tactile play, has been laid to a depth of over 50cm to enable creative sand play.

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, “It is more important to maintain the playground well than just to build it well,” and added, “By combining public and private efforts in operation, we hope it will be loved more as a space that nurtures children’s dreams and imagination.”
