Wando-gun Launches Full-Scale 'Smart Healing Village Development Project'
20 Billion Won Invested to Build ICT-Enabled Smart Center and Healing House
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it held a mid-term report meeting on the implementation design (architecture) of the ‘Smart Healing Village Development Project’ on the 28th of last month and will actively promote the project.
The ‘Smart Healing Village Development Project’ is a project that utilizes advanced technology to improve the lives of residents in rural fishing villages and create a sustainable future-oriented community.
Last year, the county was selected as the first in the nation at the county level for the ‘2019 Intelligent ICT Town Development’ contest project, securing a total project cost of 2 billion KRW (1 billion KRW national funds, 500 million KRW provincial funds, 500 million KRW county funds). It plans to build a smart care infrastructure using information and communication technology (ICT) and construct a Smart Center and Healing Houses in Bulmok-ri, Gunoe-myeon, Wando-gun.
Accordingly, the basic plan for the ‘Smart Healing Village Development Project’ was completed in December last year, and since last month, architectural implementation design services have been underway. The project is being promoted with the goal of starting construction of buildings and smart care infrastructure in May and completing it in December.
Through the ‘Smart Healing Village Development Project,’ one ‘Smart Center’ and three ‘Healing Houses’ will be established.
The ‘Smart Center’ will serve as a central facility for residents of 12 villages in the natural hamlets of Bulmok-ri, Yeongpung-ri, and Hwangjin-ri, aiming for welfare, convenience of life, and local business.
Additionally, the ‘Smart Healing Houses’ will be facilities that provide a comfortable lodging environment for residents and visitors by utilizing ICT technology and Wando-gun’s marine healing resources, aiming to revitalize the local economy and generate income.
At the report meeting, Shin Woo-cheol, Wando-gun governor, said, “We will carry out the project steadily as a resident-led customized project,” and added, “We will contribute to tourism revitalization through the development of stay-type tourism courses centered on the Smart Center.”

A Wando-gun official stated, “We plan to complete the Smart Healing Village Development Project by December by reflecting the opinions raised at this mid-term report meeting.”
