Gwangju Buk-gu, Operation of the 1st Child District Policy Participation Group
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 2nd that it will operate the ‘1st Children’s District Participation Group’ to guarantee children’s participation in district administration and promote their rights.
The ‘Children’s District Participation Group’ was established to contribute to the creation of a child-friendly city by developing policies necessary for children and adolescents and participating in the policy process.
Accordingly, Buk-gu is recruiting 100 members to serve as the district participation group until the 6th.
The recruitment targets are 80 children aged 7 to under 18 residing in Buk-gu, and 20 guardians of preschool children and advocates from child-related organizations. Applications can be submitted by visiting or emailing the Women and Children Division, referring to the Buk-gu Office website.
The term of the district participation group is from next month until December, during which members will perform roles such as discovering child-friendly city projects, proposing policies on local issues and administrative services, and conducting child-friendly campaigns.
Members participating in promotional activities and programs will receive incentives such as recognition of volunteer hours, reimbursement of actual expenses (such as transportation costs), and commendations from the district mayor for outstanding members.
In addition, Buk-gu plans to separately operate a ‘Children’s Rights Monitoring Group’ for children among the district participation group members who wish to participate, to discover cases of children’s rights violations and exemplary child-friendly policies.
