Yeonggwang-gun to Fully Distribute 5.1 Billion Won in Farmers and Fishermen Public Interest Allowance in First Half of Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 2nd that it will pay the entire amount of the 'Farmers and Fishermen Public Interest Allowance of 5.1 billion KRW,' introduced for the first time this year, in the first half to boost the morale of small business owners and the local economy, which has been stagnated due to the spread of COVID-19.
The county originally planned to split the farmers and fishermen public interest allowance into two payments in May and October, each 300,000 KRW, paid via the Yeonggwang Love Card. However, to alleviate the difficulties faced by farmers and fishermen due to the spread of COVID-19 and to revitalize the stagnant local economy, it decided to pay the full amount in the first half, next month and in May.
This decision was made after the rapid increase in COVID-19 infections began to reduce consumption in alley markets and traditional markets. To revitalize the local economy and boost the morale of local small business owners, the county proposed to Jeollanam-do to pay the full amount immediately after selecting the recipients.
The decision was made after acceptance by the Jeollanam-do Farmers and Fishermen Public Interest Allowance Committee, and the county's prompt response has become known as a good example among local residents.
The Yeonggwang Love Card, paid as the public interest allowance, can only be used within the county and is mainly used at small businesses and traditional markets, so it is expected to help alleviate difficulties in the stagnant local economy.
As external outings of farmers and fishermen decreased due to the spread of COVID-19, the county extended the application deadline by two weeks from the original April 21 to May 6.
Additionally, the county plans to proceed smoothly with follow-up measures such as selecting recipients and issuing Yeonggwang Love Cards to pay the farmers and fishermen public interest allowance on schedule.
