Among 10 COVID-19 Confirmed Patients, Condition 'Critical'... 6 in Severe State (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] As of the 29th, among the confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea, 10 patients are in critical condition, and 6 patients are receiving oxygen therapy or are classified as severe cases.
At the regular briefing in the afternoon, Kwon Jun-wook, Deputy Director of the Central Disease Control Headquarters, stated, "Currently, there are 6 severe patients and 10 patients in critical condition."
For critically ill patients undergoing isolation treatment, therapies such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), mechanical ventilation, and oxygen mask treatment are administered. ECMO is a device that removes blood from patients whose heart and lungs are not functioning properly, supplies oxygen, and returns it to the body. Mechanical ventilation through intubation is used to treat patients who cannot breathe on their own. For severe patients whose oxygen saturation has dropped due to pneumonia or other conditions but are in a better state than critical patients, oxygen mask treatment is provided.
