Nigeria Reports First COVID-19 Case... Sub-Saharan Africa
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has been reported in Nigeria, Africa.
According to AFP and other sources on the 28th (local time), an Italian man who returned to Lagos, Nigeria from Milan, Italy earlier this week showed suspicious symptoms and was tested, confirming infection.
Italy has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in Europe.
Nigeria has a population of 190 million. This is the third confirmed COVID-19 case reported on the African continent so far.
One case each was confirmed in Egypt and Algeria. This is the first confirmed case in the sub-Saharan region.

AFP reported, "Although the African continent has close economic ties with China, the number of COVID-19 infected patients is low, causing confusion among health experts," and added, "Questions are being raised about whether health authorities in the region have the capacity to detect infections."
