Baemin Supports Riders with 500,000 KRW Weekly During Self-Quarantine... COVID-19 Overcoming Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Delivery riders of Baedal Minjok, who face disruptions in their delivery work due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), will receive a weekly livelihood support payment of about 500,000 KRW and bike rental fees. Woowa Brothers announced the ‘Rider Support Measures to Overcome COVID-19’ including these details on the 25th.
According to the measures, riders who are quarantined as suspected COVID-19 cases will receive a weekly livelihood support payment of 412,320 KRW. Woowa Brothers explained, “The support amount was determined assuming riders work 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, applying the 2020 minimum wage.” Riders who enter a 2-week self-quarantine and cannot work will receive about 820,000 KRW solely as livelihood support.
Bike rental fees will also be fully waived. Woowa Brothers stated that the weekly bike rental fee of 83,300 KRW will be waived entirely until the rider returns from self-quarantine. The industrial accident insurance fee of 3,230 KRW per week will also be supported for the same period as the bike rental fee waiver.
A Woowa Brothers official said, “Fortunately, there have been no suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases among Baemin riders so far, but we have prepared rider support measures in case of any possible situation.”
Woowa Brothers also recommends prepayment through the app rather than paying in person when ordering food. This is to prevent cash or cards from being exchanged hand-to-hand. Customers are also urged to actively use the ‘Rider Requests’ feature when ordering. If customers suggest specific delivery methods such as ‘Please leave it at the door,’ face-to-face contact is reduced and the risk of infection is blocked.
Distribution of masks and hand sanitizers to prevent infection among riders and connectors will continue. Woowa Brothers has so far provided about 20,000 masks and 2,000 hand sanitizers free of charge to riders and connectors.
