Integrated Union Urges Local Governments to Close Cafeterias Once a Week to Overcome COVID-19
Joining Efforts to Revitalize Local Businesses Suffering from the COVID-19 Crisis
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The National Integrated Public Officials Labor Union (Chairman Lee Chung-jae, Integrated Union) announced on the 13th that it will actively participate in efforts to urge one day off per week for workplace cafeterias in local governments nationwide as part of the Integrated Union's initiative.
This is to help revitalize local commercial districts suffering from the economic downturn caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The respiratory disease (Covid-19) that originated in Wuhan, China in December 2019 has, for three months, driven the world into fear of the new virus infection.
As a result, tourism has sharply declined, various events have been canceled, and people's activities and interactions have been restricted. South Korea is no exception, with economic activities shrinking.
In particular, local commercial districts nationwide, which are already in difficult circumstances, are becoming depressed, causing concern among many people.
The Integrated Union holds serious concerns about this situation and has decided to join efforts to overcome it.
As part of efforts to help revitalize local commercial districts, workplace cafeterias in local governments nationwide will close one day per week, encouraging employees to use nearby restaurants and shops.
