LG Uplus Launches 5G Plan Without Contract, Specialized for Single-Person Households
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus will exclusively sell the 5G unlimited plan specialized for single-person households, ‘5G Direct,’ through its official online shopping mall ‘U+Shop’ until May 31.
According to LG Uplus on the 13th, ‘5G Direct’ is a plan that allows unlimited use of 5G data without speed restrictions. It also includes basic services such as ▲wired/wireless voice calls (including 300 minutes of additional calls) ▲messages. The basic services provided, including data, voice calls, and messages, are the same as the existing ‘5G Smart Plan (85,000 KRW/month including VAT),’ but the monthly fee is 65,000 KRW (including VAT), which is about 23.5% cheaper than the 5G Smart Plan, making it its biggest advantage.
In particular, to celebrate the launch of the ‘5G Direct’ plan, LG Uplus offers a monthly discount of 10,000 KRW to the first 10,000 customers, providing a shocking benefit of being able to use the 5G unlimited plan for as low as 55,000 KRW per month (including VAT). LG Uplus explained that for customers in their 20s and 30s, such as single-person households who do not need rate plans involving bundled discounts, they removed the contract period so that customers can freely subscribe and cancel without worrying about penalties, and introduced an online-exclusive 5G unlimited plan with the lowest monthly fee in the industry.
The ‘5G Direct’ plan can be subscribed to without a separate contract only through U+Shop from the 14th of this month until May 31, and contract discounts, bundled discounts, optional contracts, official subsidies, and memberships are not applied, except for welfare discounts, under the same LTE rates. LG Uplus will additionally provide customers who choose the 5G Direct plan with an LED smartphone sterilizer worth about 98,000 KRW, in addition to basic gifts such as chargers and batteries.

Lee Sang-heon, Head of Rate Product Planning at LG Uplus (Executive Director), said, “We have launched a shocking online-exclusive product for the 20s and 30s generation who want to use fully unlimited 5G service without conditions such as discounts, bundles, or contracts,” and added, “We will continue to introduce differentiated products tailored to the tastes of the 20s and 30s generation.” LG Uplus is steadily introducing rate plans for customers in their 20s and 30s who feel burdened by long-term contracts. Since January this year, it has been selling a one-year short-term contract internet product, which has a shorter contract period but cheaper rates than the existing three-year contract, through the online shopping mall ‘U+Shop.’
