Hwasun-gun Expands Free Public Wi-Fi Service
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 10th that it has expanded its public WiFi service, allowing residents to use the internet for free to reduce communication costs, improve information accessibility, and provide convenience for tourists.
The county recently completed the installation of public WiFi at 33 major locations across 13 towns and townships and started the service from today.
The county expects that the expansion of the public WiFi service project will serve as a highly tangible, community-centered policy that helps bridge the information gap for socially vulnerable groups and improve quality of life by reducing communication expenses.
This project is a pledge from the 7th local government administration, with an investment of 300 million KRW to install an additional 72 WiFi access points (APs) at 33 locations in 13 towns and townships to fulfill the pledge.
In 2016, public WiFi was established at 51 locations including town and township administrative welfare centers, public libraries, health centers and branch health clinics, welfare centers, traditional markets, and terminals?public facilities and multi-use venues.
From 2017 to last year, installations were made at 20 major tourist sites such as the Dolmen Historic Site, Unjusa Temple, and Dongguri Lake Park, as well as 26 locations including Hanium Culture and Sports Center, County Comprehensive Cultural Center, County Hall, public facilities, and bus stops.
To date, public WiFi has been installed at 130 locations.
Public WiFi allows anyone to use free WiFi at speeds of 1Gbps regardless of the mobile carrier (KT, SKT, LGU+).
To use it, connect to the WiFi network named SSID "Hwasun FREE WiFi" and then press the use button.

County Governor Gu Chung-gon said, “With the expansion of public WiFi, we have laid the foundation for residents and tourists to conveniently access various information services. We will continue to expand public WiFi in places where residents need it, such as county buses and multi-use facilities, to bridge the digital information gap.”
