Gwangju Buk-gu Wins ‘Excellence Award’ in Local Government Policy Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 10th that it won the Grand Prize at the 7th Local Government Policy Awards hosted by the Korea Local Government Association for its project "Dense Village Welfare Where Neighbors Care for Neighbors."
The Local Government Policy Awards are given annually to local governments nationwide to recognize policy cases that have greatly contributed to regional development or serve as exemplary models for other local governments.
Last year, Buk-gu surveyed over 66,400 single-person households to investigate health and housing conditions, identifying and managing 1,707 high-risk individuals. The district focused on preventing solitary deaths by installing IoT (Internet of Things) devices and providing mobile safety care services.
Additionally, through the welfare one-on-one connection system where 2,500 members of the local human safety network, Our Village Hope Keepers, visit at-risk households to check on their well-being, Buk-gu established a "customized welfare system where neighbors care for neighbors."
By promoting the "Happy Nest Love Home Repair" project, the district supported housing repairs and renovations for vulnerable groups and operated the "Visiting Happy Sharing Refrigerator" to help maintain the health of families facing difficult living conditions, thereby spreading the values of sharing and giving.
