Yang Hyang-ja Preliminary Candidate "This Time, Yang Hyang-ja Will Spread Confidence to the Central Party"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yang Hyang-ja, a preliminary candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea for the National Assembly election in Seo-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, has vowed to convey her confidence of "This time, Yang Hyang-ja" to the central party ahead of the central party interview.
Candidate Yang stated on the 9th, "I will thoroughly prepare for the central party's '21st local district National Assembly candidate interview' to be held on the 10th and take a step closer to the central party nomination, including the Public Office Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee."
The Democratic Party of Korea is conducting interviews for National Assembly candidate applicants until the 13th. For Gwangju and Jeonnam, where there are multiple candidates, the interviews are scheduled for the 10th.
Although the scoring for this interview accounts for only 10% of the nomination screening results, the qualitative evaluation items such as identity and contribution, which make up the remaining 50%, can also be influenced by the interview, making it an important procedure that effectively accounts for 60% of the nomination screening.
Candidate Yang plans to make the most of the one-minute self-introduction to emphasize her identity and contribution as a party member.
In the last general election, Candidate Yang declined the party's proposal to run as a proportional representative or in the metropolitan area and ran in Seo-gu (Eul), Gwangju, where no one else wanted to run at the time. She has also served as the highest elected official of the Democratic Party, the national women's committee chairperson, and the standing election committee chairperson of the Gwangju City Party.
Additionally, when the Japanese export restrictions caused a crisis in the Korean economy last year, she resigned as the head of the National Human Resources Development Institute, a government official, at the party's call and served as the vice-chairperson of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on Japan's Economic Aggression, contributing to the establishment of the government's ruling party's "confident diplomacy" policy.
Candidate Yang said, "I overcame the limitations of academic background, region, and gender, joined the party, and worked tirelessly for the party. If given a chance, I am confident that I can win, and I will convey this confidence to the central party as well."
Meanwhile, former highest official Yang Hyang-ja, born in 1967, is well known as a high school graduate Samsung Electronics executive who joined Samsung Electronics while attending Gwangju Girls' Commercial High School and was promoted to executive director.
She was selected as a "Moon Jae-in recruit" and ran in Seo-gu (Eul), Gwangju, in the 20th general election. She was elected in 2016 as the highest official of the Democratic Party and the national women's committee chairperson.
