[Breaking] Hwang Kyo-ahn to Announce General Election Candidacy... Circling Back to Jongno?
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] On the 7th at 3 PM, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, will hold a press conference at the party headquarters in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, to announce his decision regarding the general election.
He is expected to choose between running for the Jongno district in Seoul or not running at all. For now, many speculate that he has settled on running for Jongno.
If he declares his candidacy for Jongno, he will face off against former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon of the Democratic Party of Korea. Independent lawmaker Lee Jung-hyun has also decided to run, which may split the conservative vote.
Contrary to general expectations, there is also attention on the possibility that he may choose not to run, citing the justification of leading nationwide election campaigns.
