[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 7th, Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, presided over the 'Korea-Russia 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Commemoration Project Progress Meeting' at the Government Seoul Office Building with related ministries in attendance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
In June 2018, the Korea-Russia leaders designated 2020, the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, as the 'Year of Korea-Russia Mutual Exchange' and agreed to form joint preparatory committees in both countries to hold commemorative events, cooperating closely.
The Russian preparatory committee chairman is Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister for the Far East, and on the Korean side, former chairman Chung Sye-kyun was appointed Prime Minister, so in January, Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki was appointed as the new chairman.
A government official explained, "Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev, who is also the Russian representative of the Korea-Russia Economic Joint Committee, is a key partner with whom Deputy Prime Minister Hong has met several times last year alone to discuss various economic cooperation projects," adding, "Based on the deep consensus between the two chairmen, it is expected that tangible results will be produced from this 30th anniversary commemoration project."
At the meeting, chaired by Chairman Hong, the progress of the Korea-Russia 30th anniversary commemoration project was reviewed, and in-depth discussions were held on major project plans and measures to strengthen the preparatory committee's operational system.
