Former professor Jin claimed, "All of Cho Kuk's children's credentials are forged," while CEO Kim rebutted, "It is absolutely not an admissions fraud."
On the 6th, former professor Jin and CEO Kim held a discussion on the topic "Is this the Cho Kuk incident or the prosecution incident?" at the main conference room of Kukmin Ilbo headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul.
On that day, in response to the question "Are Cho Kuk's children's admissions credentials legitimate?" CEO Kim stated, "The World Leading Talent selection was a general admission process selecting 200 out of 420 candidates," adding, "There were oral exams and foreign language criteria. The qualifications were met, and it would have been strange if they had not passed with those scores."
CEO Kim continued, "Regarding the first author issue, the student never submitted anything related to it, nor does it appear in the personal statement or school records. It is something that Korea University cannot verify," and pointed out, "However, the media reported it as if 'the student became the first author.'"
He then addressed the forgery of private documents allegation, saying, "According to the 2009 Ministry of Education directive, if the start or end of mentoring activities cannot be specified, the semester name should be written. They followed the Ministry of Education's instructions, but the indictment states it as obstruction of business by the high school homeroom teacher," and argued, "How can following the Ministry of Education's directive be considered obstruction of business? It is exaggerated."
In response, former professor Jin countered, "The most important point is that all the credentials used in the admissions were forged."
He added, "Regardless of the admission method, if forged documents were used, it is illegal," and said, "The controversies in the media are about whether the documents were forged, and I resigned to reveal the fact that the certificates were forged."
He further criticized, "The problem is that (CEO Kim) speaks as if the student named Cho Min entered the university through legitimate means."
Former professor Jin also claimed, "As far as I know, Cho Kuk's children never interned at Dongyang University," and stated, "All the documents submitted to the university were forged. The relevant courses were canceled, but it is recorded that they participated. Since it is impossible to stamp a certificate for a non-existent course, the seal of Jeong Gyeong-sim herself was blurred to forge it as the university president's seal. Also, a false volunteer activity confirmation was created under Jeong Gyeong-sim's name."
He continued, "The Seoul National University Public Interest Human Rights Law Center internship plan, the Law Firm Cheongmaek internship confirmation, scholarship certificates, Seoul National University Public Interest Human Rights Law Center internship confirmation, and Busan hotel practicum were all forged," and said, "Especially, the internship certificate from the KIST Biomedical Functional Research Center was said by Yoo Si-min to be difficult to block."
Former professor Jin emphasized, "This admission process does not select based on test scores but on credentials and other factors, and the problem is that these credentials were forged from beginning to end."
Hearing this, CEO Kim responded, "Professor Jin worked at Dongyang University but knows nothing about the certificate issuance process," and said, "I have issued certificates before. How do you know Jeong Gyeong-sim forged certificates? You keep reading parts from the prosecution's indictment, but you are speaking as if unverifiable parts from the indictment are facts."
Former professor Jin raised his voice, "The prosecution cannot write indictments based on imagination. All indictment contents must be supported by evidence," and added, "Based on my confirmation with staff who issue certificates at the school, the indictment is accurate. It is absurd for someone who has never been to Dongyang University to claim to know better than those who worked there."
