Gwangju City Accelerates Construction of Kim Daejung Convention Center Exhibition Hall 2
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City is actively promoting the construction of the second exhibition hall at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center to foster the local MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry and strengthen its competitiveness in attracting international conferences.
On the 5th, Gwangju City held a kickoff meeting at City Hall to analyze domestic and international exhibition and convention industry trends and to decide on the feasibility, scale, budget, and project duration for the construction of the second exhibition hall as part of the basic plan establishment service.
Based on the results of this service, the city plans to finalize a detailed construction plan, complete administrative procedures including reviews by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and then commence construction.
The second exhibition hall at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center is planned to be built on a site of approximately 18,900 square meters across from the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center’s first parking lot, featuring an exhibition hall of 8,000 to 10,000 square meters, conference rooms, and parking facilities.

Kim Jun-young, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Office of the city, stated, “The Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, the region’s only exhibition and convention center since its opening in 2005, is currently operating at nearly 71% capacity, reaching saturation. With the construction of the second exhibition hall, we will be able to attract large-scale exhibitions and drive the development of Gwangju’s MICE industry.”
