Damyang-gun Establishes 'Population Policy Division' as a Solution to Low Birthrate and Aging Population
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 5th that it has recently established a dedicated department for population policy to find solutions to overcome low birth rates and an aging society.
The Population Policy Department recognizes the national challenge of the "population cliff" crisis as an urgent issue for the county, and this year has established a county population policy promotion plan. It is actively working to attract population with the goal of securing a population of 50,000 by frequently promoting population policies that can be easily understood at a glance.
Along with implementing measures to mitigate the impact of population decline, the county has completely revised the existing ordinance supporting population increase policies into an ordinance supporting population policies to discover customized policies for each life cycle in response to changes in population structure.
By clearly establishing the basis for support targets and scope such as jobs, education, culture, housing, welfare, and returning to farming and rural areas, more systematic population policies will also be promoted.
Governor Choi Hyung-sik said, “Going forward, we will strengthen the functions of the Population Increase Measures Promotion Committee and form an administrative consultative body for population policy consisting of departments and personnel responsible for population policy promotion. We will focus our capabilities on exploring improvement measures for population issues and actively developing tasks for population policy promotion.”
