KB Financial Group Sponsors 'Legacy Cup 2020' Tournament
5 Countries' Teams Participate, Held at Gangneung Hockey Center from the 7th to the 9th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] KB Financial Group is sponsoring the international ice hockey friendly tournament ‘Legacy Cup 2020,’ held from the 7th to the 9th at the Gangneung Hockey Center to commemorate the ‘2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.’
The South Korean women's national team, which won the ‘Legacy Cup 2019’ held last year, is scheduled to play a three-game series against the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland, while the men's national team plans to compete against Kunlun Red Star, a strong team from the Russian Ice Hockey League (KHL). This tournament is expected to provide enjoyment to fans through matches with world-class teams and also improve the performance of the South Korean national team.
KB Financial has long supported national teams and numerous athletes in winter sports such as figure skating, short track, bobsleigh, skeleton, and curling to promote winter sports. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the sports sponsored by KB Financial won 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals, marking the fruition of their long-term support for winter sports.
In particular, since KB Financial began sponsoring men's ice hockey in 2016, the team has rapidly improved its skills, earning its first silver medal at the ‘2017 Sapporo Winter Asian Games,’ and is now considered to be approaching world-class level beyond Asia.
Additionally, to expand the base of winter sports through the use of Olympic venues, KB Financial partnered with the ‘2018 Pyeongchang Foundation’ last December to launch the integrated brand ‘Play Winter.’ Play Winter is an integrated brand meaning that it is now our turn to enjoy the world-class sports facilities left as Olympic legacies. Starting with the ‘2019 Luge Asia Championships,’ it has designated four international competitions as ‘2018 Pyeongchang Commemorative Events,’ including the ‘2020 IBSF Intercontinental Cup Skeleton Competition,’ the ‘IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship,’ and the ‘2020 FIS Snowboard World Cup,’ actively promoting activities.
