SKT to Establish 3D Content Production Studio... Opening in Seoul This Spring
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] SK Telecom announced on the 4th that it will open the mixed reality (MR) production facility ‘Jump Studio’ in Seoul this spring, which implements three-dimensional virtual images in real space.
This is the first introduction in Asia of Microsoft (MS)’s ‘Mixed Reality Capture Studio’ technology through a domestic contract with Microsoft. Mixed reality refers to an advanced technology that combines the advantages of virtual and augmented reality (VR·AR) to enable users and realistic virtual images to interact within real space. Performances and events using holograms are representative examples.
Accordingly, SK Telecom plans to lead the popularization of immersive media services such as AR, VR, and MR by supporting customers in various fields including entertainment, education, and healthcare to easily produce three-dimensional content through Jump Studio.
Jump Studio will be equipped with over a hundred cameras and the latest graphic equipment. Entertainment companies can create three-dimensional avatars of idol singers to be used in performances and fan services, and broadcasters can apply three-dimensional images and videos of sports players to various broadcast screens.
In particular, it is expected that numerous post-production manual tasks involved in content creation will be replaced by the latest technologies such as texturing (applying materials) and motion sensing (implementing movements), reducing production time and costs.
Jeon Jin-soo, head of SK Telecom’s 5GX Service Business Division, said, “Innovation in the content production stage is essential to expand 5G immersive media services,” and added, “We will activate Jump Studio to lead the popularization of immersive media services.”
