Incheon City Conducts Comprehensive Survey on Public Sculptures... Strengthening Construction Procedures and Post-Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City has launched a survey on all public sculptures in the region to ensure transparency in the establishment procedures of public sculptures and to implement systematic post-management.
The city announced on the 3rd that it will conduct a self-inspection of public sculptures, including the management status of existing public sculptures and establishment plans, over a month in cooperation with 10 districts, counties, and affiliated public institutions.
In March, after reviewing the data, the city plans to conduct additional investigations such as major on-site inspections.
Recently, due to the indiscriminate establishment of public sculptures nationwide and the lack of post-management, resulting in frequent damage, deterioration, and abandonment as eyesores, the city has decided to strictly supervise the establishment procedures of public sculptures and carry out post-management of existing sculptures.
As of last year, it was identified that there are a total of 384 public sculptures within public facilities in the Incheon area.
Following the recommendation of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Incheon City enacted the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Management of Public Sculptures in Incheon City" in 2017, which mandates that matters related to the establishment, relocation, replacement, dismantling, and changes in shape and color of sculptures must be reviewed by the Public Design Committee.
The Public Design Committee appoints 15 public sculpture experts as committee members to prevent indiscriminate installations and strengthen maintenance and management.
