250-Year-Old Tree Loses Value Due to Broken Base
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Son Tae-seok] The natural monument No. 541, 'Hapcheon Haeinsa Haksadae Fir Tree,' which was broken at the base by Typhoon 'Lingling' last fall, will be delisted as a cultural property.
According to the Cultural Heritage Administration on the 2nd, the Natural Monument Subcommittee of the Cultural Heritage Committee recently reviewed and approved the proposal to delist the Hapcheon Haeinsa Haksadae Fir Tree as a natural monument.
This tree is estimated to be about 250 years old and was large for a fir tree, with a height of 30 meters and a circumference of 6.6 meters. There are also documents and legends related to Choe Chiwon, a great scholar and writer of the Unified Silla period.

Last year, the Cultural Heritage Administration also delisted the 'Wando Yejakdo Gamttang Tree' and the 'Ongjin Baengnyeongdo Yeonhwari Mugunghwa,' which were damaged by typhoons, from natural monuments.
