Preliminary Candidate Shin Jeong-hoon: "The Special Act for Abandoned Mining Areas Should Be Extended"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Shin Jeong-hoon, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Naju-Hwasun, Jeonnam, argued that the statute of limitations for the "Special Act on Development Support for Abandoned Mine Areas" (폐특법) needs to be extended.
On the 31st, during a livelihood visit in Hwasun, preliminary candidate Shin Jeong-hoon stated that although the expiration of the statute of limitations for the 폐특법, which is the foundation for self-reliance in abandoned mine areas, is approaching in six years, the amendment bill to extend the statute of limitations by 10 years has been postponed in the National Assembly's bill review subcommittee, increasing the likelihood of automatic expiration in the 20th National Assembly.
Accordingly, he plans to establish a joint response system with the political community, local society, and residents to ensure the enactment of the amendment to the 폐특법.
The 폐특법, enacted as a ten-year temporary law at the end of 1995, has been extended twice so far.
Preliminary candidate Shin Jeong-hoon stated, "I will reorganize the regional distribution criteria of the abandoned mine fund to increase the budget to benefit Hwasun's economy."
The abandoned mine fund is supported by Kangwon Land, which allocates a portion of its net profits as regional development project funds to seven abandoned mine areas nationwide, including Hwasun, with about 9 billion KRW annually provided to Hwasun.
