Application Open for National Gugak Center Children's Danso Making Academy Participation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The National Gugak Center's Instrument Research Institute will accept applications for the '2020 Children's Gugak Instrument (Danso) Making Academy' from the 3rd to the 7th of next month.
The '2020 Children's Gugak Instrument (Danso) Making Academy' is an event where parents (guardians) and children can learn the principles of instruments together and create their very own unique Danso. It is scheduled to be held on the 20th and 21st of next month in the underground lecture room of the National Gugak Center's Yeaakdang.
This event is themed "Adding Math, Multiplying Science, and Gugak All Together~," focusing on discovering the mathematical and scientific principles hidden within the sound production of Gugak instruments, and allowing participants to directly make their own Danso using these principles.
The lectures are divided into two parts: In Part 1, participants will enjoy learning about the structure and characteristics of Gugak instruments, the principles of sound production, and the method of calculating the 12 pitches of Gugak using the Sam-bun Son-ik method through newly developed teaching materials and educational tools. In Part 2, participants will experience making a Danso using what they have learned. After the class, there will be a visit to the newly renovated Gugak Museum to view various Gugak artifacts with friendly explanations.
Each session accommodates 10 teams (1 team: 1 child and 1 guardian) and is held twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Guardians do not need to be family members but must be adults to participate.

Applications can be submitted on the National Gugak Center e-Gugak Academy website from 10 a.m. on the 3rd to 5 p.m. on the 7th of next month. Only one application per person is allowed (duplicate applications are not permitted). Participants will be selected through an online lottery, with announcements posted on the National Gugak Center and e-Gugak Academy websites, and winners contacted individually. The participation fee is 10,000 KRW.
