Park Young-sun: "Technopark is the Vanguard of the 4th Industrial Revolution"... Meetings in 19 Regions

On the 31st, Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said this during a meeting held at Chungbuk Technopark in Ochang, Chungbuk, adding, "The first mission for technoparks is the successful dissemination of smart factories and the designation and operation of regulatory free zones."
The meeting was attended by directors of 19 technoparks nationwide. They discussed the role and development direction of technoparks as partners in the innovative growth of regional SMEs.
Minister Park said, "Technoparks, having reached adulthood, must change accordingly." She also stated, "With prompt execution of tasks, I expect the emergence of the 12th and 13th unicorn companies outside the metropolitan area."
Technoparks were launched in December 1997. Since then, they have contributed to fostering regional SMEs as institutions supporting technological innovation.
Minister Park urged, "At the center of institutions that must work alongside the Ministry of SMEs and Startups are the 19 technoparks. Let us put our heads together with the ministry, combine our strengths, and carry out our tasks and national agendas without fail." She also said, "If technoparks develop and propose many new industries and new businesses, we will strive to reflect them in policies."

Minister Park promised institutional support. She emphasized, "To proactively prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, the 'power to connect small things' such as connections between companies, between companies and universities, and between companies and research institutes is important." She added, "As regional innovation hubs, technoparks will be institutionally supported to fully demonstrate their capabilities in fostering regional SMEs."
