Gimhae City - Vietnam, Strengthening Economic Cooperation
Ty Ninh Province Invites Dong Nai Province's Bien Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City for Visit
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City and the Gimhae City Council in Gyeongnam Province will visit Vietnam until the 1st of next month.
The delegation of 10, including Mayor Heo Seong-gon and Chairman Kim Hyeong-su, is promoting the strengthening of economic cooperation with Dong Nai Province, Bien Hoa City, and Ho Chi Minh City, the economic and industrial centers of southern Vietnam, at the invitation of Tay Ninh Province, an international friendship cooperation city.
Vietnam is Gimhae City's third largest export destination and fourth largest import source. It is also the fourth largest export country for local manufacturing companies, making it an important country in the field of economic cooperation.
This visit to Vietnam was agreed upon through exchange working-level consultations last December between the two cities.
The Tay Ninh Province side stated that since the establishment of the international friendship cooperation city partnership in December 2015, the provincial party secretary and governor have visited Gimhae City, but there has been no visit from the mayor of Gimhae City, and thus requested the mayor's attendance. This is the first time among the mayors of Gimhae City.
Accordingly, Gimhae City organized a delegation to Vietnam with the aim of expanding trade and investment in the future, and departed on the 28th in connection with the visit to Tay Ninh Province.
In addition to the request for the mayor's visit, the Tay Ninh Province side also requested the dispatch of a performance group to promote cultural exchange between the two cities. Before the delegation's departure, a traditional arts performance group from the Gimhae area visited Tay Ninh Province from the 26th to the 30th.
Following the visit to Tay Ninh Province, the delegation visited Bien Hoa City in Dong Nai Province, an international sister city, to meet with Mayor Pham Anh Dung and agreed to resume exchanges between Gimhae City and Bien Hoa City, which had been suspended since 2008.
They then visited Dong Nai Province to meet with Cao Tien Dung, Governor of Dong Nai Province, and requested support for international exchange cooperation between Bien Hoa City under Dong Nai Province's jurisdiction and Gimhae City, as well as cooperation and support for Gimhae companies entering the Vietnamese market.
On the 31st, they visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to discuss economic exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and Gimhae City, support for overseas internships for Gimhae youth, information on infrastructure projects ordered by the Vietnamese regional government, and participation plans for Gimhae companies.
