[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Exhibition catalogs and research books from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) are now available for purchase at the online bookstore Yes24.
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art announced on the 29th that it has started selling exhibition catalogs and research books through Yes24, and will soon begin sales on another online bookstore, Aladin, with plans to expand sales to more online bookstores in the second half of the year.
At Yes24, 14 types of exhibition catalogs and research books are currently being sold, including the recently published "300 Works from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Collection," the MMCA 50th Anniversary Exhibition "Square: Art and Society 1900-2019 (Korean/English)," "Remembered Future (Korean/English)," and "What Does the Museum Collect? (Korean/English)."
Since the opening of the Seoul branch in 2013, about 150 exhibition catalogs and research books have been published.
Earlier, in September last year, the MMCA opened a new art-specialized bookstore called "Art Bookstore" in the Seoul branch's Art Zone.
The Art Bookstore houses about 3,500 domestic and international art books, including approximately 150 publications by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as catalogs from renowned overseas museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Tate in the UK. There is also a space dedicated to video materials (DVDs) and children's art books. Since its opening, average sales of catalogs and art books have approximately doubled. To improve cultural accessibility, the MMCA plans to partially reprint past exhibition catalogs and research books based on demand and continue to introduce them through online bookstores.
