US Senate Rejects John Bolton Witness Proposal in Trump Impeachment Trial (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 21st (local time), the U.S. Senate rejected a proposal to adopt John Bolton, former White House National Security Advisor, as a witness in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump.
On the same day, the Senate discussed the rules related to President Trump's impeachment trial. The Democrats submitted an amendment to adopt former advisor Bolton as a witness in the impeachment trial, but it was rejected due to opposition from the Republicans. The vote was 47 in favor and 53 against.
Earlier, former advisor Bolton stated that if he were summoned as a witness in the Senate impeachment trial, he would testify.
Bolton was considered a key witness in the allegations of President Trump's 'Ukraine scandal.' In a statement, he said, "As a citizen and former National Security Advisor, I have tried to fulfill my duty," and added, "If the Senate issues a subpoena for witnesses during the impeachment trial process, I have concluded that I am ready to testify."
