Busan Citizens, 66.4% 'Satisfied with Education Policy'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 21st that 66.4% of respondents expressed overall satisfaction after conducting two rounds of public opinion surveys on Busan education policy.
The survey was conducted twice, in October and December of last year, targeting a total of 3,000 men and women aged 19 or older living in the Busan area, with 1,500 respondents each time.
The percentage of respondents who answered that they were 'satisfied' with Busan education policy was 54.2% in the first survey and 66.4% in the second survey.
Regarding the abolition of multiple-choice evaluations in elementary schools and the expansion of descriptive and essay-type assessments, 67.3% responded positively in the first survey and 70.2% in the second survey.
Positive responses related to the expansion of educational welfare policies, such as providing students with meal fees, school trip expenses, and uniform costs, were 72.9% in the first survey and 76% in the second survey.
86.1% of respondents positively evaluated the establishment of experiential education facilities (Future Education Center) utilizing closed schools.
There was also strong support for the purchase-type kindergartens, which involve acquiring private kindergartens and converting them into public ones (76.7%), and the high school credit system that allows students to select various subjects according to aptitude and career path instead of uniform entrance exam-focused education (75.4%).
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun said, "The various policies promoted for change and reform are gaining trust not only from education consumers but also from citizens," and added, "We will continue to steadily carry out this year’s key projects, including building future education infrastructure to strengthen future core competencies."

The public opinion survey was conducted using a random digit dialing (RDD) method for both landline and mobile phones, with a sampling error of ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
