Yeosu City Urges Caution Over China's 'Wuhan Pneumonia'
Avoid Visiting Wuhan, China and Follow Personal Hygiene Guidelines
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 20th, with the first confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia in Korea and growing concerns that the virus could spread domestically and internationally ahead of China’s largest holiday, the Lunar New Year, Yeosu City urged its citizens to refrain from visiting Wuhan, China.
Yeosu City announced that, following the occurrence of suspected cases in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and other places where visitors from Wuhan, China have been, it plans to strengthen its emergency response system in accordance with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines, treating the situation as a new infectious disease similar to MERS.
The city will send related documents, including the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s response guidelines and instructions for medical consultations, to local medical institutions and will make every effort to respond thoroughly in preparation for any eventuality.
A health center official stated, “If you develop fever along with respiratory symptoms (cough, sputum, difficulty breathing, etc.) or pneumonia within 14 days after visiting Wuhan, China, especially the Huanan seafood market, please immediately report to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (☎1339) or the Yeosu City Health Center Infectious Disease Control Team (☎061-659-4252).”
