Son Hak-kyu "Actively Welcome Ahn Cheol-soo's 'Pragmatic Centrist Politics'"
Im Jae-hoon, Ahn's 'Conservative Unification' Boundary... "Deep Respect"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Sohn Hak-kyu, leader of the Bareunmirae Party, stated on the 20th regarding the return of former Bareunmirae Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, “Former lawmaker Ahn, who spent 1 year and 4 months abroad in a period of reflection, is not interested in conservative unification and aims for practical centrist politics beyond factional politics,” adding, “I warmly welcome him.”
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Leader Sohn said, “This philosophy of former lawmaker Ahn is precisely the value that I have upheld for our Bareunmirae Party despite numerous humiliations,” and added, “Because a third-way practical centrist party will become the center of South Korea.”
Leader Sohn also said, “I will do my best to create conditions and support wholeheartedly so that former lawmaker Ahn can open a new path in Korean politics together with the Bareunmirae Party,” and “I look forward to having an opportunity soon to discuss the future of the party and the country together.”
Im Jae-hoon, Secretary General of the Bareunmirae Party, also stated, “I express deep respect and full agreement regarding former lawmaker Ahn’s clear rejection of conservative unification raised by some quarters, saying he is ‘not interested,’” and added, “The core of all conflicts, including the initial conflict with the Bareun Party, conflicts during the fast-track process, and all conflicts reproduced and expanded through the Transformation Party, was the situation of ‘whether to achieve or block conservative unification.’”
