President Moon: "The New Northern Policy is a very good opportunity... We will do our best for tangible results"
[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in received a report on the '2020 New Northern Policy Strategy' from the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation (Northern Committee), a presidential advisory body, and urged, "Since this year presents an exceptionally good opportunity that may be hard to come by again, please do your best to ensure that the New Northern Policy yields tangible results."
Han Jung-woo, deputy spokesperson of the Blue House, stated in a written briefing regarding the Northern Committee report that "President Moon received the '2020 New Northern Policy Strategy' report from Kwon Gu-hoon, chairman of the Northern Committee, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today."
According to Deputy Spokesperson Han, Chairman Kwon reported on the achievements so far in laying the groundwork to strengthen cooperation with northern countries since the committee's launch, as well as plans for this year, saying, "This year, we will strive to make it a year of producing and expanding tangible results in northern economic cooperation."

Deputy Spokesperson Han added, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Russia and Mongolia, providing a good opportunity to focus on promoting the New Northern Policy," and continued, "Following last year's visits to the 10 ASEAN countries and the hosting of the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit, which served as momentum for the New Southern Policy, this year has been designated as the 'Year of New Northern Cooperation'." Furthermore, he said, "We have decided to prepare an organic implementation plan covering economic cooperation, diplomatic events, cultural and human exchanges, and publicity to maximize the achievements of the New Northern Policy."
