Korean Party: "Public Official Committee Chair Prepared for General Election According to Party Schedule... May Supplement if Unified"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The Liberty Korea Party, which is pursuing integration, appointed former National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyung-o as the chairman of the nomination committee on the 16th. With the general election just three months away, the party stated that it will proceed with the election preparation work as planned but may supplement the composition of the nomination committee upon integration.
Park Wan-soo, the secretary-general, said this to reporters after the Supreme Council meeting on the morning of the same day.
Secretary-General Park said, "Although integration is underway, considering various schedules, we intend to proceed with integration and election preparations on two separate tracks. If integration is achieved, we can significantly improve the composition and operation of the nomination committee, which is why we appointed the chairman today."
When asked whether there had been any communication with the New Conservative Party, he replied, "Since he is the nomination committee chairman of the Liberty Korea Party, he was appointed according to the party’s constitution and regulations." Regarding the possibility of replacement after integration, he added, "If it helps the integration in any form, we can supplement or improve necessary parts after confirmation."
The Liberty Korea Party plans to select nomination committee members within this week and launch the nomination committee next week.
Spokesperson Jeon Hee-kyung also emphasized, "Within the process to win the general election, tasks that need to be done within the party will be carried out internally, and those for integration will be pursued for integration. If there are parts where operational finesse is required, we will apply it to ensure the integration process is not hindered. We are researching and finding ways, so there is no need to worry about that."
Regarding the composition of the nomination committee after integration is confirmed, she said, "It will be conducted considering operational finesse, the other party’s position, and fairness."
