Songpa-gu, Online Issuance of Passport Application Number Tickets
First Among Public Institutions... "Likely to Alleviate Residents' Inconvenience Due to Long Waiting Times"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 16th that starting from the 20th, residents can check the number of people waiting for passport issuance and obtain an online queue ticket for passport issuance through the Songpa-gu website.
Songpa-gu has a large population and convenient transportation, making it one of the top two districts in Seoul in terms of the number of passport issuances. Especially during the winter vacation period from December to February, when overseas travel surges, the volume of passport issuance significantly increases, causing inconveniences with wait times of up to two hours.
In response, Songpa-gu developed the "Online Passport Issuance Queue Ticket Service." While some banks issue online queue tickets, this is the first time a public institution has implemented such a service.
By using this service, residents can access the Songpa-gu website (http://www.songpa.go.kr) via their mobile phones or computers to see how many people are currently waiting for passport issuance and obtain an online queue ticket. Once the online queue ticket is issued, the ticket details, including the registration number, are automatically sent via text message to the registered mobile phone.
Afterward, through the website, users can check their registration number and the number of people waiting ahead of them in real time, allowing them to estimate when their passport issuance request will be processed.
Songpa-gu expects that this service will alleviate some of the inconveniences residents faced by having to wait for long periods at the district office for passport issuance.
Residents who check the passport issuance waiting status through the Songpa-gu website can avoid crowded times and adjust their visit schedules accordingly.
Additionally, when obtaining an online queue ticket via the internet, residents can use their time efficiently by attending to other tasks or utilizing nearby facilities, significantly reducing on-site waiting times at the district office.
