Gwangju City Implements Special Traffic Measures for Lunar New Year Holiday
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 15th that it will designate the period from the 24th to the 27th as the Gwangju Outing Week during the Lunar New Year holiday and has prepared special transportation measures for returning home and grave visitors, including increasing city buses and extending subway operations.
First, during the four days of the Lunar New Year holiday, the '518' city bus route, which runs from Sangmu District to Gwangju General Bus Terminal to the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery, where returning home and grave visitors concentrate, will increase from 60 trips per day to 88 trips, adding 28 trips daily.
Additionally, the 'Jiwon 15' city bus route operating between Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town and Wolnam-dong will be partially changed to pass through Yeongnak Park, and the 'Yongjeon 86' city bus, which terminates at Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town, will be extended to Yeongnak Park. These expansions in public transportation aim to minimize inconvenience for grave visitors.
In particular, about 80 personnel including city and district officials, police officers, and exemplary drivers will manage traffic and parking guidance around the national and municipal cemeteries and surrounding roads where grave visitors gather. Additionally, around 400 personnel including officials, police, and exemplary drivers will conduct traffic control and illegal parking guidance in congested areas such as Gwangcheon Express Bus Terminal, Gwangju Songjeong Station, and Malbau Market.
The subway will also extend operations twice (once each in the Sotae and Pyeongdong directions) until 12:45 AM on the 23rd, the day before the holiday, after the regular closing time at midnight.
Furthermore, real-time traffic information analyzed from closed-circuit television (CCTV) data at the Traffic Information Center will be provided on electronic signboards across highways and city areas. Traffic police and others will be concentrated at major interchanges (ICs: Gwangsan, Sanwol, Dongnim, Seogwangju, Yongbong, Donggwangju, Munheung) where congestion is expected to encourage traffic volume dispersion.
