Busan Mayor Discusses 'Coffee Industry' with First Korean WBC Champion
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Oh Keo-don, Mayor of Busan (right in the photo), met with Jeon Ju-yeon (left in the photo), the first Korean barista to win the World Barista Championship (WBC), on the 14th to discuss ways to develop Busan's coffee industry.
During the meeting, Mayor Oh said, "The development of the coffee industry will not only be linked to the MICE industry but also play a role in attracting young people to Busan," adding, "Let's host the World Barista Championship in Busan, where the champion is from."
In response, Jeon also requested, "Since Busan is the most promising city to host the championship in Asia, I ask the city to show more interest."

Also present was Lee Hyun-gi, operator of a coffee brand in the Busan area, who explained, "More than 90% of the coffee beans imported into Korea enter through Busan Port. As a specialty market, Busan has great potential," adding, "The global coffee market has already begun to pay attention to Busan."
