Selected for Seoul City’s ‘2019 Autonomous District Design Solar Power Special Contest’... Installation and Operation of Solar Power Healing Shelter in Guui Park
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has created and started operating the ‘Guui Park Solar Healing Shelter’ in Guui Park, located opposite the Gangbyeon Technomart in Guui 3-dong.
The ‘Guui Park Solar Healing Shelter’ was selected in the ‘2019 Autonomous District Design Solar Special Contest’ hosted by Seoul City and was installed with budget support from Seoul City.
The ‘Autonomous District Design Solar Special Contest’ is a project aimed at expanding the distribution of solar power by installing solar facilities that incorporate ideas and design elements into multi-use facilities, providing rest areas and attractions for Seoul citizens.
The ‘Guui Park Solar Healing Shelter’ was created as a resting space where visitors to Guui Park can avoid sunlight and rain by installing curved glass panels with attached solar modules above the existing park entrance stairs.
Additionally, the annual 11,597 kW of electricity generated here will be used for operating the Guui Park management office, shelter lighting, free mobile phone charging, and other purposes to benefit visitors to Guui Park, contributing to energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I expect the Guui Park Solar Healing Shelter to serve as a resting space for residents as well as a foundation for solar energy self-sufficiency,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create a clean and safe Gwangjin-gu by increasing the use of renewable energy such as solar power, which does not emit environmental pollutants.”
