Chonnam National University to 'Freeze' Tuition Fees This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University has frozen tuition fees again this year.
The Chonnam National University Tuition Deliberation Committee (Chairman Professor Jo Seongjun) held a meeting on the 13th and announced on the 14th that it decided to freeze the undergraduate tuition fees for the 2020 academic year at last year's level.
This year's first semester tuition fees are expected to range from a minimum of 1.68 million KRW to a maximum of 3.12 million KRW, covering fields from Business and Humanities and Social Sciences to Dentistry and Medical Sciences.
Chonnam National University has frozen or reduced tuition fees for 12 consecutive years since 2009. During the first three years, tuition fees were frozen, and from 2012 to 2014, tuition fees were consecutively reduced.
Since 2015, tuition fees have not been increased for six years, and notably, from 2018, the university abolished admission fees for both undergraduate and graduate new students.

Chairman Jo Seongjun said, "Although freezing and reducing tuition fees continuously poses considerable difficulties in university operations, we decided this way to uphold the intention of reducing the financial burden on students and parents," adding, "Chonnam National University will thoroughly fulfill its responsibilities as a flagship national university by maximizing operational efficiency, improving the educational environment through government financial support projects, and engaging in regional win-win cooperation activities."
