SH Corporation Signs MOU with Korea BIM Society to Establish 'Smart BIM' System
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced on the 14th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea BIM Society to establish a Smart Building Information Modeling (BIM) system.
Through this agreement, the two organizations will strengthen mutual cooperation across various fields such as research and development, technology exchange, and expert training to build a 'Smart BIM' system that integrates advanced technologies like AI, big data, and drones, which are representative technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, moving away from the traditional construction system based on experiential knowledge.
The government announced the 'Smart Construction Technology Roadmap' in January last year, aiming to establish a utilization base for BIM-based smart design and virtual construction by 2025 and complete construction automation by 2030. SH Corporation plans to commence research and development by signing this MOU with the Korea BIM Society to achieve these government policy goals.
In this regard, SH Corporation has confirmed the pilot project that will carry out the entire process from design to construction using the Smart BIM system as the Jangji-Gangil Depot three-dimensional project and will actively promote it. Furthermore, to successfully complete the pilot project, SH Corporation plans to strengthen its cooperation with the Korea BIM Society by establishing Smart BIM implementation strategies, design and construction guidelines, forming advisory groups, and developing and collaborating on educational programs to establish it as a successful BIM leading project.
SH Corporation is also considering expanding the application of BIM to public housing projects commissioned by the corporation. Based on the results of this year's pilot project operation, SH Corporation plans to build an integrated BIM platform in 2021 and gradually expand BIM application projects from 2022 onward, establishing a mid- to long-term plan in this direction.
