Gwangju Buk-gu Expands Odd-Even Parking System and Shared Community Parking Lots
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 14th that, following last year, it will continue to focus administrative efforts on alleviating residents' traffic inconveniences by expanding the 'Odd-Even Parking System' and 'Shared Community Parking Lots' this year, selecting areas with insufficient parking spaces, and creating public parking lots.
Since July last year, Buk-gu has been implementing a variable odd-even parking system daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in three sections: Lotte Super in Munheung 1-dong, the Administrative Welfare Center in Munheung 2-dong, and Moa Miraedo Apartments in Yongbong-dong. Additionally, a one-sided parking system has been operated in one section at Junghung 3rd Apartment in Munheung 2-dong, reducing the risk of safety accidents and contributing to easing traffic congestion in commercial areas.
Moreover, the 'Shared Community Parking Lot' project supports facility improvements when private or public institutions such as religious organizations, financial institutions, and schools open their parking lots to residents free of charge. Currently, 16 facilities share 460 parking spaces with the local community, helping secure parking spaces.
This year, through resident briefings and related procedures by June, the odd-even parking system will be implemented in three sections: from Goryeo High School to the 31st Division in Samgak-dong, from Nonghyup Hanaro Mart to Goobne Chicken Maegok Ochi Branch in Maegok-dong, and from Songsan Apartments to Medipharm Sejong Pharmacy in Duam-dong. Additionally, a one-sided parking system will be applied at the entrance section of Ilgok Library in Ilgok-dong. The district plans to continuously consult with apartments, marts, schools, and others to further expand shared parking lots.
In particular, an underground public parking lot with a capacity of 40 spaces will be constructed by 2023 in areas where apartments, commercial buildings, and houses are mixed and parking spaces are insufficient.

District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “Since the implementation of the four major illegal parking reporting system by residents in April last year, we have been promoting it through banners and campaigns, but it is still difficult to eradicate illegal parking. As the four major illegal parking prohibition zones are directly related to residents' safety, we will actively promote projects to alleviate residents' traffic inconveniences, such as strengthening illegal parking enforcement, the odd-even parking system, and shared community parking lots.”
