Police Investigate Sinjeong-dong Eccentric Rabbit Murder Case Including New Intelligence
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police have announced that they are investigating the so-called 'Bizarre Rabbit Murder Case,' which occurred 15 years ago and remains unsolved to this day, including new intelligence.
A police official stated on the 13th, "The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's cold case investigation team is conducting an investigation by compiling new intelligence submitted by the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, based on DNA data and investigation records secured at the time of the incident."
The 'Bizarre Rabbit Murder Case' is a serial murder case that occurred in Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, in 2005. In June 2005, a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, was found dead, tied with a string inside a rice sack in a residential area near Sinjeong-dong. Later that November, a woman in her 40s, Ms. B, was murdered and abandoned in a similar manner in Sinjeong-dong.
The 'new intelligence' mentioned by the police came from a police officer affiliated with the Busan Police Agency, suggesting that a duo who committed robbery and rape crimes in 2008 in Sinjeong-dong and Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, respectively, could be suspects. One of the two was sentenced to 10 years in prison, was released last year after serving the sentence, and the other man was sentenced to 12 years and is scheduled to be released this year.
