Hyundai Heavy Industries "Optimizing Ship Operation Using AI... 10% Fuel Cost Reduction"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Hyundai Heavy Industries recently announced on the 13th that it has developed a ship operation optimization system that reduces fuel costs by more than 10% by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) into its proprietary engine model 'HiMSEN.'
The core technology applied this time is an intelligent ship equipment management solution and AI that supports optimal economic operation by checking the operating information of ship equipment in real time during navigation.
This system operates by having AI comprehensively analyze big data and real-time information of ship power generation engines accumulated through the intelligent ship equipment management solution to find the optimal fuel efficiency method and issue commands to the ship in operation.
Hyundai Heavy Industries developed the intelligent ship equipment management solution last year and has so far secured orders for 45 vessels (about 170 engines), of which deliveries for 10 vessels (about 40 engines) have been completed.
Hyundai Heavy Industries added that it is seeking new opportunities in the smart engine business by providing preventive diagnostic services linked to parts and maintenance, including remote monitoring, at the digital control center located at Hyundai Global Service in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
