9 Registered Developmentally Disabled Adults Aged 18+ in Yeongdeungpo-gu... Working as Administrative Assistants, Meal Assistants, and Baristas at Libraries and Welfare Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is recruiting 9 participants for the 2020 Developmental Disability Employment Project to expand social participation and support independence for people with developmental disabilities.
Applicants must be registered residents of Yeongdeungpo-gu and be 18 years or older with a registered developmental disability as of the announcement date.
The working conditions are 5 hours per day (9 AM to 3 PM), 5 days a week, with enrollment in the four major social insurances, and an hourly wage of 8,590 KRW (based on the 2020 minimum wage, including weekly holiday allowance and monthly leave allowance).
The employment period is a total of 11 months, from February to December.
New hires will work from February at locations such as the Yeongdeungpo-gu Municipal Welfare Center for the Disabled, the District-run Disabled Love Sharing House, Yeouido Digital Library, Mullae Information Library, Ieum Center for Independent Living for the Disabled, Food Bank, and Yeongdeungpo-dong Community Center, performing roles such as barista, meal assistant, and administrative helper.
Those interested should prepare the application form for the Developmental Disability Employment Project and a self-introduction letter and submit them in person to the Social Welfare Division of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office.
The application period is from January 8 to 17, and all application documents, including the participation application form, can be downloaded from the Notices and Announcements section on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office website during the application period.
The district will conduct a first round of document screening and a second round of interviews to select candidates for employment. After a three-week job training period in February to assess suitability, the final hiring decision will be made by the end of February.
Yeongdeungpo-gu was the first district in Seoul to officially hire 5 people with developmental disabilities as part-time contract workers in 2013, and has provided jobs to 67 people with developmental disabilities to date.
In addition, the district has been discovering and distributing jobs tailored to various types of disabilities, including developmental disabilities, through the general employment project for people with disabilities. It also recruits organizations to carry out welfare job projects for people with disabilities to support job experience for those who have difficulty finding employment.
Furthermore, in December last year, the district established the developmental disability independence support facility ‘Chaoreum’ and held an opening ceremony. Yeongdeungpo-gu is making multifaceted efforts to promote independence and expand social participation for people with disabilities.
