Gwangju Kyungsilryeon "Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju, Apologize for the Private Park Special Project"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice (hereinafter Gwangju Gyeongsilryeon) urged, "Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju Metropolitan City should publicly apologize for the investigation results of the Private Park Special Project and proceed fairly and transparently in the future."
On the 9th, Gwangju Gyeongsilryeon stated in a press release, "The Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office announced the investigation results of the Private Park Special Project case the day before," and "The investigation revealed that Gwangju city officials abused the specific audit by the Audit Committee and omitted agenda items that should have been submitted to the Proposal Review Committee, thereby changing the preferred negotiator for Central District 2."
They continued, "It was confirmed that there were abuses of authority, such as pressuring Gwangju Urban Corporation, the preferred negotiator for Central District 1, to relinquish its status, as well as forgery of official documents during the abuse of authority," emphasizing, "We were able to confirm collusion between the mayor's younger brother and the chairman of a major construction company based in Gwangju."
Gwangju Gyeongsilryeon expressed deep disappointment and regret over Gwangju city's attitude, which defended itself by claiming it was 'active administration' rather than showing remorse.
The organization said, "As the highest responsible person for city administration, Mayor Lee should publicly apologize to the citizens of Gwangju for causing confusion in city administration related to the investigation of the Private Park Special Project and approach city governance with a more humble attitude," adding, "Since the fairness and credibility of Gwangju city administration have been significantly damaged, we propose activating public-private governance and holding countermeasure meetings with civic groups to devise practical measures to prevent recurrence."
