Jo Hae-jin and Ryu Seong-geol Rejoin Korean Party: "Despite Some Party Opposition, for Integration..."
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] A total of 24 people, including former lawmakers Ryu Seong-geol and Jo Hae-jin, whose party membership was previously put on hold due to internal opposition, have rejoined the Liberty Korea Party.
The Liberty Korea Party announced on the 9th that the agenda regarding this matter was unanimously approved at the Supreme Council meeting. The 24 individuals include 7 who filed objections with the Central Party Membership Qualification Review Committee after their membership applications were put on hold by provincial party branches, and 17 whose membership applications were put on hold by provincial party branches.
The Liberty Korea Party stated, "During the recent presidential and local elections, many figures left the party, and those whose membership was put on hold due to independent candidacies were allowed to rejoin after going through the Central Party and provincial party membership qualification review committees."
Among those rejoining are individuals such as former lawmakers Ryu Seong-geol and Jo Hae-jin, who had previously been notified of membership rejection by provincial party branches. They were selected as party district chiefs through a public audition during last year's Emergency Committee but were denied reentry by the Daegu City Party and Gyeongnam Provincial Party, respectively, which had blocked their membership.
Former Changwon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo, who ran as an independent candidate dissatisfied with Hong Jun-pyo's nomination for Changwon Mayor in the 2018 local elections, was also approved for reentry this time. The Liberty Korea Party explained that reentry was approved for individuals who had run under the Bareunmirae Party or served as party district chiefs and wished to rejoin.
The Liberty Korea Party views this reentry decision as part of the conservative grand unification. Secretary-General Park Wan-soo said, "Even though there is some opposition within the party, this resolution was made as the first step toward overall conservative unification."
The Liberty Korea Party plans to continue the reentry process in accordance with party rules and regulations for those who were denied membership for various reasons, including those who left the party, independent candidates who ran in elections, those whose membership was put on hold or pending, and those who filed objections regarding membership.
