BioGenetics Files Patent Application for Extraction Method of 'Juiciness Components' Key to Alternative Meat
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] BioGenetics, which has entered the alternative meat market, announced on the 8th that it has completed the patent application for a method of extracting 'meat juice component (Leghemoglobin)' together with WithBioPharm, a leading domestic company in the alternative meat field.
Currently, BioGenetics is jointly developing alternative meat with WithBioPharm, the lead research company selected for the national project on future-oriented innovative food technology development, the first in the alternative meat field. This patent is the second patent application following the completion of the 'core patent for mass production and commercialization of alternative meat' application last month. It is a patent concerning a method of extracting the meat juice component, which is the core of the taste and texture of alternative meat, using supercritical carbon dioxide from soybean root nodules.
While existing artificial meat products are simply plant protein compression-molded products, the company explains that their developed product, which includes the core technology of 'meat juice component,' can clearly differentiate itself from existing products in terms of taste and texture.
A BioGenetics official explained, "By making it possible to extract a certain amount of 'meat juice component' from the raw material, soybean root nodules, we now hold all the core patents for alternative meat technology."

Following the patent application for mass production of alternative meat, BioGenetics has secured the patent for the extraction method of the 'meat juice component,' thereby gaining a favorable position in the alternative meat market. A BioGenetics official stated, "This patent is a method extracted from soybean root nodules, not genetically recombined, so it is much freer in terms of safety compared to existing artificial meat products using genetically modified (GMO) soybeans," adding, "We are currently accelerating prototype production and doing our best for the fastest possible commercialization."
